ODOT Statewide Municipal Bridge Inspection Program for Districts 4, 11 and 12

Ribway was selected as a part of the Arcadis team by ODOT Central Office to participate in ODOT’s major statewide bridge inspection program under a three-year general services agreement. This initiative, managed by the Office of Structural Engineering, encompassed bridge inspection services for Districts 4, 11 and 12, ensuring the safety and integrity of Ohio’s infrastructure.

Scope of Work

  1. Routine Bridge Inspections (Task 1)  
    • Conducted routine inspections to evaluate the general condition of assigned structures.
    • Inspections were performed in compliance with ODOT’s Manual of Bridge Inspection.
    • Delivered Condition Rating Inspections for NBI and non-NBI structures, along with Element Level Inspections for NHS classifications.
  2. Scour Critical Assessments (Task 2)
    • Performed field assessments of scour conditions for specific structures.
    • Prepared deliverables, including field notes, completed Scour Critical Assessment Checklists (Appendix I, 2014 ODOT Manual of Bridge Inspection), and additional reference materials for maintenance.
  3. Structure Inventory and Review (Task 3)
    • Reviewed and updated structure inventory data within ODOT’s Structure Management System (SMS) as required.
    • Updates adhered to ODOT’s Inventory and Coding Guide.
  4. Field Measurements for Load Ratings (Task 4)
    • Collected field measurements for structures lacking plans or data to support load rating calculations.
    • Documented measurements and photographs to facilitate load rating evaluations.
  5. Load Rating Calculations (Task 5)
    • Conducted load rating calculations using AASHTO BrR software.
    • Results were documented on Form BR100 per ODOT’s Bridge Design Manual, Section 900.

Achievements

  • Inspected 66 structures across 15 counties.
  • Bridges inspected included spans ranging from 10 feet to 100 feet.
  • Types of structures inspected:
    • Multi-span structures: Continuous prestressed adjacent box beams, multi-steel beams/girders.
    • Single-span structures: Prestressed adjacent box beams, multi-steel beams/girders, concrete frames/slabs/beams)
    • Rigid culverts: Box, circular, and arch pipes.
    • Flexible culverts: Circular and arch pipes.
