ODOT Statewide Municipal Bridge Inspection Program for Districts 4, 11 and 12

Ribway was selected as part of the Aracadis Team by ODOT Central Office to provide bridge inspection services under this contract. This major statewide bridge inspection program was administered by ODOT’s Central Office, Office of Structural Engineering under a 3-year general services agreement. Bridge inspection services under this contract were performed for Districts 4, 11 and 12 for Years 2017, 2018 and 2019. Over the three year period, a total of 270 bridges were inspected every year.
Following is a brief description of the tasks performed for the bridge inspection services: Task 1 – Routine Bridge Inspections: This task includes performing routine bridge inspections on designated structures to determine their general condition. Inspections were performed in accordance with ODOT’s Manual of Bridge Inspection for additional details on the scope of this task. Condition Rating Inspections for non-NBI and NBI structures, and an Element Level Inspections for NBI classified as NHS. Task 2 – Scour Critical Assessment: Under this task, an assessment of scour conditions are performed in the field for the designated structure. Deliverables include field notes, a completed “Scour Critical Assessment Checklist,” per Appendix I of the 2014 ODOT Manual of Bridge Inspection, and any other reference materials needed for the bridge owner to properly maintain the structure. Task 3 – SMS Structure Inventory and Review: The scope for this task includes conducting a limited review of the structure inventory data in ODOT’s Structure Management System (SMS) and updating the data if required. Updates are performed per ODOT Office of Structural Engineering Inventory and Coding Guide. Task 4 – Field Measurements for Load Ratings: This task includes performing field measurements of the structures (with no plans or available data) to obtain pertinent information for the purpose of Load Rating the structures. Field measurements and photographs are obtained for evaluation and determining the condition of the main load carrying elements required for input in the calculations. This information is uploaded into AssetWise for referencing during the Load Rating Calculation process. Task 5 – Load Rating Calculations: Under this task, Load Rating Calculations are performed utilizing AASHTO BrR Software and reported on Form BR100. Load Rating Calculations are performed in accordance with the ODOT Bridge Design Manual, Section 900.
Ribway performed bridge inspection services for a total of 66 structures in various municipalities within 15 counties. Spans ranged from 10 to 100 feet. Bridge types included multi-span structures (continuous prestressed adjacent box beam, and multi-steel beams/girders), single span structures (prestressed adjacent box beams, multi-steel beams/girders, and concrete frames slabs/beams), rigid culverts (box, circular and arch pipes), and flexible culverts (circular and arch pipes).
