Design completion: February 2010
Construction completion: 2011
Client: City of Columbus Division of Power & Water
Project Overview
Ribway was selected as part of a team by the City of Columbus to provide engineering design services for this project that involves major roadway and infrastructure improvements along a 1.5-mile section of Livingston and Parsons Avenues in the vicinity of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Prime Consultant was EMH&T.
Roadway improvements included:
- Full-depth full-width pavement replacement and widening of a 4-lane arterial section
- New concrete medians, curb and gutter, sidewalks, bike paths, curb ramps and pedestrian cross walks
Other infrastructure improvements included:
- Water line replacement
- Storm sewer replacement
- Street lighting replacement.
Ribway’s responsibilities on the project included:
- Design of a section of roadway
- Street lighting improvements and preparation of the maintenance of traffic plans for the entire project
The street lighting portion of the project included 1.5 miles of decorative lighting. Major electrical improvements were included in the design to supply power to the lighting system. Also included were new 480 Volt electrical service, rerouting of existing underground cables and overhead 14.4 kV utility circuits, replacement of existing switching equipment, overhead and underground transformers, and new lighting controllers. New underground concrete vaults were also designed to house some of the electrical appurtenances.
All design work conformed to ODOT, and City of Columbus Divisions of Transportation (DOT) and Power and Water (DOPW) Standards. Extensive coordination with various agencies and consultants was required during the project’s design to establish locations for the relocated utility lines, new trees, plants and bio-retention storm water ponds.
